In Barrington, Illinois there was a mansion with a 400-acre farm that stood untouched for several years after the owners – husband and wife, William and Jane McGinley, both passed away. William passed in 2001 and Jane passed in 2003.
Their Horizon Farm held three of the state’s top stallions. The family had a high interest in racehorses, which you’ll understand a little more when we take a look at the horse farm!
With everything still inside after the owners had died, the land eventually sold for $20 million in 2006 to a couple who thought they could keep up on the payments. The property finally went into foreclosure.
Over the next 16 years, this mansion stood untouched and everything the Mcginley’s owned still sat inside the home.
Before we make our way inside, let’s take a look at the property outside! The front porch had rocking chairs and an area for guests to hangout on a sunny day.
There was even a Guest House for visitors who needed a little extra privacy. If I ever had a mansion, I’d 100% build a guest house just because I could haha.
And out back, you’d find a horse track for all the horseraces the family dearly loved!
This track was extremely large and in really good shape when the explorer found it.
The entire horse farm shut down after the Mcginley owners passed away. The immediate family never reopened the farm because majority lived out of state, sadly.
After years of legal battles, a judge ruled to have the property demolished with everything inside. In 2022, it was finally torn down.
